I’ve been sick, or have allergies, or perhaps caught a rare disease that has kept me inside the four walls of my concrete condo for the last four days. Usually, this wouldn’t hurt the psyche because I have a nice view of the east side, with sunshine in the morning that sparkles on the water, but, ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone. “She” being summer. What the fuck, right?
On Montreal natives, First You Get The Sugar, Converse Music said, “…basically, the kind of songs you hear and then wonder why they aren’t hits.” Fancy that Converse Music, I thought the same thing after hearing the song Sabre Rattlin’ off of their self-titled, debut record – my ears perked and I quickly recalled what I said the first time I heard something by Hawksley Workman, “Damn, that’s fresh.” No surprise, Converse selected the four-peice to come hang out at their recording […]
This record came out in 2002. This record was nothing like anything I had heard before. This record kept me up for nights, staring at the wall with headphones in. This record successfully pushed me out of the 90’s. (All I wanted to do before this album was listen to Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews, and Ben Harper as if everyday was a day at summer camp.) On June 8th, this record will be played track by track by the […]
The sophomore release, More Than Just A Dream, from Fitz and the Tantrums is electro-pop inspired by 80’s wave at its finest. Working alongside Beck and M83 producer Tony Hoffer (um, awesome), the record is naturally ear-friendly, and tracks like “Out of My League” will stay looping in your head causing mid-afternoon restless leg syndrome. Is it 5pm yet?
In June 2010 I went to my first National show at Massey Hall and lost my socks because lead singer Matt Berninger blew them off. Now, same time three years later I’m currently looking at my feet and I’m not wearing any socks or slippers.
Haaaayy! It’s time for THE 20. This time it’s with Will. Will is in a great band. Will is great at playing guitar. Will is very funny. Will will be on tour with his great band, being great on guitar, and being funny this summer. Don’t miss it. Meet Will. Name: Will Gooch Band: The Archives (Guitarist) City: Toronto 1. White tee or black tee? Earl grey tee. 2. Tacos or fajitas? Fajitas: Cause I love having this point of contention over band […]
So, while I’m rocking out to the new Vampire Weekend album all weekend (yeah, it’s GOOD, like Pitchfork gave it a 9.3 good), I’m gonna tier my lower half just like Turtle to hide the winter weight I still don’t care to loose. (My stolen thoughts about how to get bikini body ready? Put a bikini on your body.”)
Electro-pop band Diamond Rings, fronted by John O (coined the modern day Bowie), released Free Dimensional late last year and had music critics (like the big guys at Exclaim!) shitting frisbees. I’m no critic, so I’ll just tell you how I felt; I felt a whole lotta love. Like, “burn my name in your heart, wanna lose control,” kinda love. Driving four on the floor behind the glam rocker is Greg Santilly. And, Greg Santilly was kind enough to answer this week’s […]

Random Access Memories has had me tripping balls since first listen. “Doing It Right,” featuring Panda Bear (which, if you listen to alongside both Will Smith and Amy Poehler actually lines up), makes me want to nose-dive into a good night and forget completely about the importance of living a PG13 existence from time to time.
